About the Job

We currently have an exciting opportunity for Design Assistant to join our creative team.  This individual is an integral part of the menswear fashion design process for the Tailored Brands collections. This position requires an individual who possesses a passion, aptitude and basic knowledge of men’s fashion and clothing design. The Design Assistant helps facilitate the realization of the design team’s concepts.

What You’ll Do | Key Accountabilities

  • Escalate exceptions or issues to the development calendar
  • Assist the Design team prepare divisional assortments for presentation at Buy Meetings
  • At the direction of the Designer, request material/swatch submits based on defined requirements (fiber content, performance characteristics, price point, etc.)
  • Assist with the preparation and editing of swatch boards and any other presentation materials
  • Produce and maintain development books, including handlooms, lab dips, and other fabric specifications and samples
  • Maintain all mill swatches throughout the season and manage the fabric library of fabric samples and prototypes
  • Assist in preparation of seasonal library and facilitate workflow as needed
  • Assist design team prepare for weekly calls with buyers by preparing seasonal swatch/image cross references to class codes
  • Cut and prepare swatches to send to suppliers and buyers as part of development
  • Ensure the sample room is organized and well maintained to properly catalogue store bought samples and prototypes
  • Assist with researching and compiling design inspiration imagery
  • Input information into PLM, as needed
  • Assist with the coordination of trim at the design team’s direction
  • Own it Together: although the Design Assistant will be assigned to a Design category and/or Designer, they may be redeployed to support another design team as production needs dictate

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in fashion design, fashion merchandising/marketing, and/or design
  • General knowledge of men’s fashion, design, and technical design
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented and collaborative environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to adjust priorities to meet deadlines with good follow through and a sense of urgency
  • Organizational skills necessary to handle multiple tasks and complete them within deadlines
  • Detail oriented with attention to accuracy
  • Demonstrated creative abilities, fashion awareness, and color analysis
  • Technical sketching ability (flat and illustration)
  • Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop and Excel
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week from the New York office with occasional overtime (subject to Brand Manager approval)

Work Environment, Physical & Mental Demands

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach on a daily basis
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Must utilize visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment
  • Hours regularly 40 hours per week
